Christmas at the Stahlbaums: Little Marie and Fritz can't wait for their presents. Besides their parents' presents, they mainly look forward to what their godfather Uncle Drosselmeier leaves under the festooned tree. This year, it's a magic toy box containing a Sugar Plum World of music and mechanical figurines. As the evening is drawing to a close, Marie discovers a wood nutcracker who captures her imagination. That night, she is awakened by the sounds of scrurrying mice. In the living room, she finds the creepy Mouse King and his band of rodents. By magic, the Nutcracker comes to life and has to fend of the Mouse King's attacks. Marie defends the brave little guy with everything she's got. But she doesn't realize this is just the beginning of an amazing adventure in a magical world, which leads her to the realm of the Sugar Plum Fairy...

Based on the story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, this tale of magic and fantasy opens a gate to a strange alternate world of enchantment. One of the most beautiful fairy tale adaptations yet.
