The Chiemsee (7/11)

With a water surface area of 80 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 73 m, the Chiemsee, or the "Bavarian Lake" as it is also known is the largest lake in Germany and yet it has been shrinking constantly since it was first formed by a glacial melt. The film presents the creatures that live on and in the lake and shows how sensitive, the cycle of nature is to human intervention. The protagonists include great crested grebes, pike and mosquitoes, which though often annoying are indispensable to the natural environment. However the amazing and never-before-seen footage also shows large predatory fish, swimming around in wildflower meadows, zebra mussels who enjoy a good walk, the blue glowing larvae of fungus gnats and even pink flamingos.
